Whirlwind US visit reaps rewards for Team DMR

Most people who spend ten days in the US make sure that they see the sites, Disneyland,

Universal Studios, Hollywood and the like, but not Darren Morgan and his crew

Nope, they went on a race shop tour which included Drag Racing’s “Disneyland” – Nitro

Alley in Indianapolis, Indiana. Home to some of the finest drag racing facilities found

anywhere.

“Many of the NHRA teams have race shops in Nitro Alley, we were able to and we were able to strike up some

strong partnerships, we really learnt a lot in a short period of time” Darren enthused.

Following the unexpected cancellation of the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol TN, the guys headed to

Indy to catch up with the people who assisted with the purchase of the team’s new Top Fuel Dragster, including

legendary Crew Chief Lance Larsen. A visit to former Funny Car Champion Cruz Pedregon’s race place was also

invaluable to the DMR team as they have added a nitro Funny Car to their race schedule this year. Don Schumacher

Racing opened its doors to the DMR guys for a glance inside the workings of a multi-car team.

It was not all holidays for Darren, and his trusty crew of Dave Thornton, Matt Manley and Terry Sparrow as the

first four days of the trip were spent sorting the new race car and equipment needed for the DMR team’s assault

on the upcoming Australian Top Fuel Championship. “It’s the best of the best – the car is brand new, the

spares and inventory are all new, I’m more than happy” he enthused.

“We want to be strong this year; there is absolutely no point in attacking the Championship without the resources

and support. We are now in a position to challenge for a win at every race we attend” continued Darren.

The team will now spend the next few weeks preparing the workshop facilities and transporter while awaiting delivery

of the car. “It will be about 5 weeks before the car arrives and we have a ton of work to do. Everything needs to be

in place for when the car arrives. Along with the racing, we have also committed to a huge number of shows

around the country which will allow us to promote our sponsors and the DMR name”

With their first Top Fuel Championship event just around the corner, all hands will be on deck at the DMR race

shop in Mildura Victoria to ensure that the car is ready for it’s first clash in September.
